About this Location
The USO Fort Hood opened in 2001 in a small location in the Rivers Building, as the first USO on an U.S. Military installation. Less than a month later, 9/11 changed the nature of American and military life alike. USO Fort Hood to on a major role on the installation. When Fort Hood Soldiers began deploying in 2003, the USO began providing snacks and other services for every outbound and inbound flight, as well as for families at homecoming ceremonies.
In 2006, the USO moved to its current 4,400 square foot location on 50th Street. On average, 8,000+ soldiers and their families visit the center each month. In 2010, the USO has opened a North Fort Hood center and outfitted a gym for the WTB.
In 2011, USO expanded its foot print to its Administrative Offices – to accommodate its ever growing staff. Building 44 used to house the Post Chaplain’s offices.
In 2014, the Center was due for a major renovation. The floors have seen eight years’ worth of boots and needed a refresh. The renovation took three months to complete during which time Operation: Innovation Renovation took place.
Operation: Innovation Renovation allowed USO Fort Hood to continue to provide its programs and services to the Center guests. In December, USO Fort Hood held its Grand Re-Opening Celebration.
On November 23, 2015, USO Fort Hood held another “Grand Opening” of the RP/6 Site. As one of five pilot locations, USO Fort Hood continues to prove their commitment to this Military Community.
Transition 360 Alliance has come to Fort Hood. Partnering with four other non-profit organizations – Stronger Families, Comfort Crew Military Kids, Hire Heroes USA, and RP/6 – USO can stand by their side through the difficult process called transition. The RP/6 site is located in Building 44.
In 2015, USO served a total of 200,347 service members and their families through the two established centers, National and local programs designed to keep service members connected to their family, home, and country throughout their service to this great nation. We will not stop. You are a part of a great team. Great Family.
2016 remains to be the most memorable year yet. Celebrating 75 years of service to this great nation was evident at many of our events. In February, we celebrated USO’s birthday with a huge birthday cake and ice cream for our Center guests. In November, we held our 75th Anniversary Gala and invited 400 of our friends. Remembered our history, Bob Hope and the rest of our celebrity family. Touched over 125,000 service members and their families through our centers and family programs and special events.
Today we continue to serve Fort Hood’s military community through our two centers and programs that touch not only our service members but also their families.
